From Plate to Reel: Food Videography for Social Media
The workshop will guide participants through the complete process of creating a food reel—from developing a concept and planning a shot sequence to filming, editing and exporting the final video.
Participants will learn how to make food look visually appealing through controlled lighting, thoughtful composition and creative camera movement. The session will also focus on capturing the preparation, presentation and dining experience in a way that keeps viewers engaged from the opening shot to the final frame.
Topics Covered
· Understanding the structure of an effective food reel
· Developing a concept and simple visual storyline
· Creating a shot list before filming
· Choosing suitable camera settings for video
· Composing footage in vertical format
· Creating a strong opening hook
· Capturing food preparation, cooking and plating
· Using wide, medium, close-up and detail shots
Practical Session
During the practical session, participants will film a selection of food, ingredients, preparation processes and dining details.
The instructor – JED GALAS https://www.instagram.com/jed.galas/?hl=en will guide participants through the filming process and provide feedback on composition, lighting, camera movement, storytelling and visual consistency.

· A camera capable of recording video
· A suitable lens
· Fully charged batteries
· An empty or high-capacity memory card
· A laptop with video-editing software installed
· A card reader or transfer cable
· A laptop charger
· Headphones for the editing session
Learning Outcome
By the end of the workshop, participants will understand how to plan, film and edit a polished food reel. They will be able to create engaging short-form content suitable for restaurants, hotels, cafés, food brands, chefs, personal portfolios and social media campaigns.
